Argyll, sometimes called
Argyllshire, is one of the
traditional counties of Scotland. It covers the council area
Argyll and Bute except for the
Isle of Bute itself and the area to the south and west of
Loch Lomond which is part of
Dunbartonshire. In addition, Morvern, north of the
Isle of Mull is also part of the county.
The historical county town is
Inveraray, which is also the seat of the
Duke of Argyll.
